Softball Clinches Series At Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. — The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team faced Lynn University in a doubleheader on Saturday at Messinger Stadium, securing a narrow 2-1 victory in the first game before falling 3-1 in the second.

PBA is back in action next weekend at Florida Southern. The series starts on Friday at 6 p.m. in Lakeland, Fla.

Game One - PBA: 2, Lynn: 1

The Sailfish edged out Lynn with a 2-1 victory, thanks to a two-run fourth inning while their pitching staff limited LU to just three hits and registered six strikeouts over seven innings. PBA took an early lead when Marli Szierer walked and was replaced by pinch runner Savanna Lee. Larken Maseda was hit by a pitch, advancing Lee to second. Rylee Little's single loaded the bases, and Holly Frankl reached on a fielding error, allowing Lee to score and Maseda to advance. Maseda then scored on a passed ball, giving the Sailfish a 2-1 lead by the end of the fourth inning. Both teams went scoreless for the remainder of the game, with the Sailfish holding on to their lead through strong pitching.

Little pitched five innings, striking out six and allowing one earned run, while Lauren Allen secured a save, pitching two innings with one hit allowed. Dianna Montidoro recorded two hits, continuing her impressive streak of at least two hits in four consecutive games. Maseda contributed with a triple and scored a run.

Game Two - Lynn: 3, PBA: 1

In the second game, the Sailfish fell to Lynn by a score of 3-1. Despite managing six hits, they scored their only run in the sixth inning.

The teams started off scoreless in the first inning, but PBA had a pair of base knocks in the second inning, coming up empty. Lynn took the lead in the second inning with a pair of hits and stolen bases, making it 1-0.

The lead was extended in the third inning, highlighted by a Lynn RBI triple, bringing the score to 3-0.

The Sailfish responded in the sixth inning when Dianna Montidoro singled and advanced to third before scoring on a groundout by Addley Dean, reducing the deficit to 3-1. In the seventh inning, PBA had an opportunity to rally with Anna Wetzsteon and Holly Frankl both singling, but the rally fell short, leaving the final score at 3-1.

Montidoro recorded one hit and scored a run while also stealing a base. Ashlyn Storms pitched a complete game, striking out four batters over six innings, marking a season-high in both innings pitched and strikeouts. Dean contributed with one RBI. Rylee Little reached base twice, notching one hit and drawing a walk.
