Baseball Drops Series Opener with Lynn

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Palm Beach Atlantic fell to the Lynn University Fighting Knights 6–4 on Friday evening at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park. Despite the loss, the Sailfish recorded eight hits and successfully stole six bases.

PBA saw its early lead slip away as Lynn capitalized on a ninth-inning error for an insurance run and secure the victory. Lynn's Bryant Zayas hit a crucial RBI triple, which brought in the go-ahead run for the visitors and shifted the momentum decisively.

The Sailfish were initially in command, with Jake McNamara playing a pivotal role in the early innings. McNamara reached base multiple times, swiped three bags, and scored twice, contributing to a four-run lead by the fifth inning. Aidan Pierre's speed was also evident as he doubled and scored in the third, while Carter Parent's RBI single, paired with a throwing error, added to the scoring in the fifth.

Despite these efforts, the 'Fish's offense stalled in the later innings, leaving potential rallies unconverted. A ninth-inning double play ended their last chance at a comeback, as McNamara's single was followed by Patrick Rakes grounding into a double play, sealing the team's fate.

Jared Murray delivered a strong start for the Sailfish, pitching 5 innings, the longest outing of his career, with only 1 hit allowed and striking out 6 batters while issuing 3 walks. A.J. Prendergast followed with 2 innings of work, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits and striking out 1, but he also issued 1 walk and threw 2 wild pitches. Lucas Chantres faced control issues in his brief 0 1/3 inning appearance, walking 2 and hitting 1 batter, leading to 2 runs, 1 earned. Christian Alonso effectively closed his stint without allowing a hit or a walk in 2/3 of an inning, throwing 5 of his 6 pitches for strikes.

The Sailfish face off with the Fighting Knights again tomorrow for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
