Women's Tennis Takes Down Thomas Jefferson

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis team pulled off a 4-3 win over Thomas Jefferson University on Sunday at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center. PBA set the pace by taking the doubles point and sealed the deal with victories in the top three singles matches.

The 'Fish kicked off doubles action with decisive wins at No. 2 and No. 1 doubles. Virginia Borja and Anarella Brito breezed past Emily Frost and Marta Vazquez 6-0 at No. 2. Moments later, Alina Hoermann and Valeria Lopez secured a 6-1 victory against Anouk Oderkerk and Alycia Veroux at No. 1. Thomas Jefferson University snagged a win at No. 3 doubles, as Marely Alvarado and Madina Omarova defeated Daniela Ortiz and Sunshine Tarpey 6-0.

In singles, the 'Fish started strong as Rose Huang of Thomas Jefferson University bested Sunshine Tarpey 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6. The gap narrowed when Marely Alvarado took down Daniela Ortiz 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5. Virginia Borja then added another point for PBA with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 win over Alycia Veroux at No. 2.

Valeria Lopez delivered for the Sailfish with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Madina Omarova at No. 3 singles. While Thomas Jefferson University fought back with Marta Vazquez's 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 win over Brito at No. 4, and Anouk Oderkerk's tight 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 victory over Hoermann at No. 1, it wasn't enough. The 'Fish's strength in doubles secured their overall victory.

The Sailfish return to the courts on Wednesday against Mississippi College.
