MELBOURNE, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis team got swept going up against Mississippi College on Wednesday, ending the match with a 7-0 defeat. The Choctaws started strong by capturing the doubles point and carried their momentum through all six singles matches to secure the win.
In doubles play, they swept all three courts. Anna Hudson and Rocio Martinez opened with a 6-1 victory over
Elisa Buhagiar and
Sunshine Tarpey at No. 3 doubles. Emily Buchanan and Ann Cabot Stockett followed with a 6-3 win against
Alina Hoermann and
Valeria Lopez at No. 1 doubles. The doubles concluded with Rune Van Wyk and Katharina Weber edging out
Virginia Borja and
Anarella Brito 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.
During singles, Rocio Martinez quickly advanced MC's lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Borja at No. 2 singles. Katharina Weber then shut out Lopez 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Rune Van Wyk kept the momentum going, defeating Brito 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
Ann Cabot Stockett added another point for the Choctaws with a 6-0, 6-0 win over
Daniela Ortiz at No. 6 singles. Anna Hudson scored a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Buhagiar at No. 5 singles. Emily Buchanan wrapped up the sweep for MC, overcoming Hoermann 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
