WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis team sailed to their first victory of the season with a commanding 6-1 win over Edward Waters on Saturday at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center. PBA dominated the court by sweeping all three doubles matches and clinching wins in five out of six singles.
The doubles point was on lockdown for PBA as they triumphed on every court.
Virginia Borja and
Anarella Brito set the tone with a resounding 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles against Sofia Lopez and Adassah Prevost. Meanwhile,
Daniela Ortiz and
Sunshine Tarpey brought home a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles over Daniela Iduriaga and Lara Viehrig.
Alina Hoermann and
Valeria Lopez wrapped up the sweep with a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles against Aalisha Alexis and Alexis Dunlap.
In singles play, the 'Fish kept the momentum rolling. Tarpey crushed it at No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Iduriaga. Brito followed suit, dominating No. 4 singles with a flawless 6-0, 6-0 win against Prevost. Ortiz continued the streak with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 5 singles over Viehrig.
Valeria Lopez sealed the deal for the Sailfish at No. 3 singles, clinching a 6-3, 6-0 win over Dunlap. Hoermann added to the scoreboard with a solid 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles against Alexis. Edward Waters notched their only singles win at No. 2, where Sofia Lopez edged out Borja in a tight three-setter, 7-6, 3-6, 1-0(10-8).
