LAKELAND, Fla. — Palm Beach Atlantic took a tough 10-7 loss against Florida Southern on Saturday at Berend Field. The Sailfish started strong but couldn't keep up the pace, letting Florida Southern slip ahead with four goals in the second quarter.
Braylon Baker led the charge for the 'Fish with two goals on eight shots, both unassisted. This marks the second game in a row where Baker has notched two goals, highlighting his steady performance.
Noah Zimmerman also put up two goals on nine shots, both unassisted as well.
Zion Lee added a goal and an assist, scoring on one of his four attempts. In goal,
Vincent Probst faced a barrage, making four saves from 28 shots.
The Sailfish kicked off the first quarter with Probst in goal, but Florida Southern jumped ahead first, converting an early penalty into a 1-0 lead. Zimmerman quickly equalized for the 'Fish, and Lee added another, keeping it neck and neck at 2-2 after a Florida Southern response.
As the first quarter wound down, it was Baker who tied things up at 3-3 with just 21 seconds left, ending the quarter on even ground.
Entering the second quarter, the 'Fish won the faceoff thanks to
Dallas Pulliam, but turnovers and failed clears stalled their progress.
William Santella and
Austin Nelson hustled to recover ground balls, but converting those into points proved difficult.
Florida Southern seized on the 'Fish's miscues, netting two quick goals early in the quarter. Maddux Walton played a key role with a goal and an assist, and a man-up goal by Ryan Filippi widened their lead. Despite defensive efforts like
Nicholas Johnson's forced turnover, the 'Fish couldn't swing the momentum their way.
By the end of the second quarter, Florida Southern held a strong 7-3 lead.
The third quarter saw a faceoff win by
Teagun Schenck, with Tyler DeGirolamo snagging the ground ball. Despite a quick turnover, the 'Fish kept pressing, with
Giovanni Lubrano's shot going just high. A Florida Southern penalty gave the 'Fish an extra-man chance, but Zimmerman's shot was saved.

DeGirolamo won the faceoff, and Nelson grabbed the ground ball, showing the 'Fish's determination. But Florida Southern found the net once more, sealing the 10-7 win. Despite late chances, including a final shot from Baker, the 'Fish couldn't close the gap.
