WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Sailfish put up a valiant fight but ultimately fell to Saint Anselm with a score of 10–8 on Friday at PBA Soccer Lacrosse Field. Despite a strong start, PBA couldn't fend off a powerful third quarter from Saint Anselm, which turned the tide of the game.
The Sailfish started off strong, as
Arianna Tribble clinched the initial draw, setting up
Olivia Larges for the opening goal with an assist from
Kaitlyn Gallagher at 13:50. Larges struck again at 7:48, with another assist from Gallagher, and
Keira Limpert capitalized on a free position shot at 6:49 to stretch the lead. Larges was on fire, scoring four goals in the game, far exceeding her season average of 2.0.
PBA kept the momentum going with
Peyton Sutton adding a fourth goal at 2:39. Despite Saint Anselm's attempts to rally, including a timeout following Sutton's goal, the 'Fish defense stood strong. The quarter closed with the Sailfish on top, 4–0.
In the second quarter, the Sailfish kept their lead thanks to a crucial goal by
Annika Limpert at 3:38, assisted by Tribble. The quarter was marked by caused turnovers and solid defensive plays, with standout ground ball pickups by
Jalona Mundo, who reached a season-high with 2, and
Georgia Karns, who recorded 6. Even with an early goal by Saint Anselm's Kyra O'Connell, PBA ended the half leading 5–2.
The third quarter saw Larges scoring again at 6:37, assisted by Tribble, giving PBA a brief 6–5 lead. However, Saint Anselm responded with a flurry of goals, swinging the momentum in their favor. By the end of the third, PBA trailed 8–6, with Saint Anselm outscoring the 'Fish 6–1 in the quarter.
In the final quarter,
Annika Limpert scored at 10:42, closing the gap. Limpert's consistent performance marked her second consecutive game with 2 or more goals. Despite a turnover by Sutton, Larges made the most of a player-up opportunity with a goal at 4:27, again assisted by Gallagher. Yet, Saint Anselm answered back with goals from Julia Rowley at 9:08 and Kendall Herrick at 0:56. The game wrapped up with Saint Anselm securing a 10–8 victory, leaving PBA just short of a comeback.
