Sailfish Secure Narrow Victory Over Montevallo 11–10

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic (6-3) clinched a nail-biting 11–10 win over the University of Montevallo (3-8, 1-0) on Monday at PBA Soccer Lacrosse Field. PBA's offense proved efficient, outshooting Montevallo 34-21 and converting two crucial man-up opportunities. This marked the third straight game where the 'Fish notched at least 24 shots on goal.

Bella Marchiano shone brightly, netting a season-high two goals and matching her season-best with two assists, including a man-up goal. Sydney Luber stood tall in the net, registering nine saves on 21 shots. Keira Limpert sealed the game with the winning goal and added an assist, emphasizing her on-field prowess. Taylor Fiorini found the net twice on three shots, including an unassisted goal.

The 'Fish took control early in the first quarter. Limpert grabbed a ground ball, setting Marchiano up for the first goal, assisted by Limpert. Fiorini quickly followed, extending the lead with a goal assisted by Grey Caplinger, who logged his first assist of the season. Olivia Larges capitalized on a man-up chance, scoring with Marchiano's help, pushing the score to 3–0.

Montevallo answered with a man-up goal from Claire Withington, but the Sailfish swiftly regained momentum. Fiorini struck again, boosting the lead to 4–1. The quarter wrapped with Palm Beach Atlantic holding a solid 4–1 edge.

Early in the second quarter, the 'Fish capitalized on a turnover, with Larges scoring off Kaitlyn Gallagher's assist, who set a season high with two assists. At 8:45, Peyton Sutton pushed the lead further with an unassisted goal, marking a season-high two goals for her. Defensive plays, especially by Luber, kept the 'Fish in control.

Though Montevallo's Ally Rich scored at 7:18, the 'Fish surged back. Arianna Tribble and Annika Limpert added to the tally, with Limpert's goal assisted by Sadie Splinter just nine seconds before the quarter ended. The 'Fish led 8–2 at the half.

The third quarter saw the 'Fish assert control again with a draw control by Tribble. Montevallo managed to close the gap with two goals, but Luber's saves and ground ball recovery anchored a defensive stand. Despite some challenges, the Sailfish kept their cool.

Marchiano exploited a man-up opportunity with a goal, assisted by Gallagher, to restore the 'Fish's lead. Sutton added another goal, assisted by Marchiano, just before the quarter's close. This scoring surge extended the Sailfish's lead to 10–5 as the third quarter wrapped up.

The fourth quarter tested Palm Beach Atlantic as Montevallo opened with a goal by Morghan Dodge. The 'Fish responded with solid defense, highlighted by Jalona Mundo's turnover and a season-high three ground balls, but Montevallo's Bridget Quayle capitalized on a free position shot.

Despite several shot attempts from PBA, Montevallo maintained pressure, with Ellery Shearer and Asha Jamieson adding to their score. The 'Fish's Keira Limpert broke through with 26 seconds left, scoring with an assist from Annika Limpert to tighten the scoreline.

The game concluded with Palm Beach Atlantic holding on as Montevallo outscored the 'Fish 5–1 in the fourth, leaving the final tally at 11–10 in favor of Palm Beach Atlantic.

The 'Fish conclude their series of home games stretched out through the past two weeks and will be on the road to start conference play on Wednesday as they take on Florida Tech.
