MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team was back in action at the Spring Games on Tuesday.
The Sailfish played a pair of games. PBA started the day with a rematch against Concordia-St. Paul. The 'Fish were walked off on by the Golden Bears on Monday evening. PBA got its revenge in a tightly contested contest, 2-1. The Sailfish ended their time in Melbourne with a win over St. Thomas Aquinas, 8-4. PBA has won five of its last seven games.
PBA is back to conference play this weekend. The Sailfish travel to Saint Leo for a three-game series. The game on Friday is set for 6 p.m.
Game One – PBA: 2, CSP: 1
The 'Fish found their stride in the second inning and never looked back, locking down defensively to keep Concordia-St. Paul at bay after the third inning.
Marli Szierer set the pace with a walk, advancing to third on
Holly Frankl's ground-rule double.
Lauren O'Brien stepped up with a groundout to second, bringing Szierer home for the initial run. A passed ball allowed Frankl to cross the plate, giving PBA a 2–0 advantage.
CSP struck back in the third with Burke doubling and Rosenthal driving her in with an RBI single, trimming the lead to 2–1. Despite the pressure, the Sailfish defense held firm, particularly in the seventh inning when the Golden Bears threatened with a single. The 'Fish swiftly extinguished the rally, retiring the next two batters to seal the win.
Rylee Little was outstanding in the circle, tossing a complete game with one earned run and eight strikeouts over seven innings. Szierer contributed with a run, a hit, and a walk. Frankl also chipped in with a hit, a run, and a double in her three trips to the plate. Behind the plate,
Larken Maseda was solid, recording a hit and eight putouts.
Little's complete game brilliance featured 7 innings of work, allowing only 7 hits and 1 earned run.
Game Two – PBA: 8 – STA: 4
The 'Fish dominated with key performances from
Rylee Little and
Kierea Smits. In the third inning, Little smashed a crucial two-run triple to right, bringing in
Larken Maseda and
Marli Szierer to push the lead to 4-2. Smits kept the pressure on in the fourth with a double, setting the stage for Madison Sclichte's RBI single that made it 5-2. Smits shone with a season-high three hits in this outing.
The sixth inning saw PBA's offense continue to roll. Szierer doubled to bring in another run, then Little followed with her second triple, adding another RBI to her name. Defensively, the Sailfish kept the Spartans in check with a key double play in the sixth that stopped their rally cold. Capitalizing on scoring chances and clutch hitting were the keys to sustaining their lead throughout.
Little led the charge with three hits and three RBIs, including those two triples. Szierer chipped in with two hits and one RBI, adding a double. Smits matched her with three hits, including a double and a triple, driving in a run.
Dianna Montidoro also contributed three hits, maintaining her steady form at the plate.
On the mound,
Ashlyn Storms took over in relief, pitching 1.2 innings and allowing six hits but no runs.
Lauren Allen got the start, pitching 1.2 innings, giving up three hits and allowing two runs (one earned). Allen struck out one and handed out two walks in her 40-pitch stint.
