CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.- The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team dropped two games to tough opponents in University of Alabama-Huntsville and #8 West Texas A&M in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.
The Sailfish return to the field one final time at the Chattanooga Invitational on Sunday morning. PBA takes on Young Harris at 10 a.m.
Game One – PBA: 0, UAH: 8
The Sailfish managed just three hits against a strong UAH offense, which scored eight runs on nine hits despite the Sailfish having a solid defensive showing with 11 assists.
Addley Dean shone in her lone plate appearance, securing one hit and contributing four assists defensively. Marli Szierer, who started the game at first base, added stability at third base with two assists and a hit, advancing on a ground ball in her two at-bats.
On the mound, Lauren Allen faced a difficult outing, allowing seven hits and five earned runs over 2 2/3 innings, but still managed a solid defensive effort with three assists. Ashlyn Storms had a strong appearance and took over in relief for 2 1/3 innings, conceding two hits and one earned run while inducing five ground ball outs.
Game Two – PBA: 0, #8 WTAMU: 8
PBA struggled at the plate, managing just two hits, both in the first inning. West Texas AM put up an impressive 11-hit performance, including a home run. The Sailfish had a solid opportunity to start the game off right with runners on second and third with one out in the top of the first but were unable to scratch a run across.
The starting shortstop, Dianna Montidoro shined defensively with six assists throughout the game. On the mound, Rylee Little pitched three innings, striking out three, but unfortunately gave up four earned runs on five hits. Offensively, Kaitlyn Campbell and Lauren O'Brien had the lone hits for the Sailfish.
