Softball Comeback Falls Short

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.- The Palm Beach Atlantic softball faced a tough battle on a very cold Sunday morning at Frost Stadium, falling to Young Harris with a final score of 6-3. Despite a spirited comeback effort that included a two-hit burst in the second inning to notch their first run, the 'Fish couldn't recover from an early four-run deficit. Young Harris capitalized with 11 hits, maintaining their edge throughout the contest.

The first inning saw Young Harris seize the lead with a decisive four-run strike. Two RBI doubles drove in multiple runs, set the tone early, leaving PBA in a challenging position from the get-go.

The Sailfish fought to turn the tide, especially in the third inning when Lauren O'Brien smacked a double to center, followed by Marli Szierer's RBI single. Another chance came in the sixth as Larken Maseda advanced to third on an error and scored on Bianca Green's infield single. Despite these efforts, the 'Fish left runners stranded, unable to close the gap.

As the game neared its end, PBA couldn't muster the rally needed to overcome the deficit, with Young Harris' defense holding firm. The early hole proved too deep, prompting reflection on the importance of minimizing early game runs.

Lauren Allen continued her solid weekend in relief, hurling 7 innings and allowing just 7 hits and 2 runs, only 1 earned. She fanned 5 batters and issued 2 walks across 112 pitches, with 72 strikes. Her performance included 11 groundouts and 5 flyouts, keeping the ball in the park.

Maseda shone with two hits and a run scored in her three trips to the plate. Szierer added an RBI and a hit in her three at-bats, while Dianna Montidoro contributed with a hit and an RBI in her three appearances.

The Sailfish return home this Saturday for a doubleheader with Ave Maria. First pitch is slated for noon.
