WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis team faced a tough match against Rollins College (6-0) on Saturday at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center, ending in a 2-4 loss. PBA showcased their singles strength with wins at the No. 3 and No. 6 positions. The match finished early due to rain and lightning in the area. The singles portion of the match was played first due to the forecast.
The doubles point went to Rollins after Nisan Can and Alyssa Novoa edged out
Alina Hoermann and
Valeria Lopez, 9-6, on court one. Doubles matches on courts two and three were left unfinished, with Rollins pairs leading both.
In singles play, Rollins extended their lead when Lorin Tilipman defeated
Elisa Buhagiar 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4. Can followed with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over
Virginia Borja at No. 2. Novoa maintained Rollins' momentum, winning 6-3, 6-3 against Hoermann on court one.
The 'Fish responded with
Daniela Ortiz's straight-sets win, 6-4, 6-3, over Annie Sallick at No. 6. Rollins secured the match as Sydney Eckstein overcame
Anarella Brito 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5. In a thrilling finish, Lopez battled through a third-set tiebreak to defeat Amina Abdulloeva 3-6, 6-4, 1-0(10-8) on court three.
The Sailfish have some time off before taking on Edward Waters on Mar. 7 at 2 p.m. at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.
