Women's Basketball Falls Just Short Against Eagles, 73-71

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team narrowly fell to Embry-Riddle, 73-71. The 'Fish put up a fierce fight, forcing 20 turnovers and racking up 12 steals throughout the game.

KB Hadley led the charge with 20 points and nine rebounds, six of which came on the offensive glass. Anabel Ellison also dropped 20 points, adding three steals and two blocks to her stat line. Blanche Toualeu chipped in 10 points and was flawless from the charity stripe, going 4-for-4. Anaya Smith's defensive prowess shone through with two blocks and three steals.

The Sailfish burst out of the gate with energy, as Hadley tipped in the first basket at 9:33. Contributions from Maddie Wallhoff and Smith, with a layup and a 3-pointer respectively, helped establish an early 7–2 lead. Embry-Riddle, however, quickly responded, keeping the game in constant flux with lead changes and ties. Ellison's clutch 3-pointer at 2:08 momentarily pushed the 'Fish ahead by one, but Embry-Riddle reclaimed the lead soon after. Despite a last-second 3-pointer from Maren McCallister, the quarter ended with the 'Fish trailing 25–22.

The 'Fish kept the momentum into the second quarter, as Toualeu's layup and Ellison's fast-break basket gave them a 26-25 edge. Smith extended the lead with another layup, and Ellison's 3-pointer pushed it to 31-25. Embry-Riddle's persistence, including a 3-pointer from Kailey Turpening, kept them in it, but the Sailfish held steady. McCallister's fast-break layup, assisted by Ellison, kept PBA ahead. The half ended tied at 37, with the 'Fish outscoring Embry-Riddle 15-12 in the quarter.

In the third quarter, PBA showed true grit, matching Embry-Riddle at 51–51. Ellison's defensive tenacity and scoring were key, highlighted by a crucial steal and jumper at 7:31, briefly giving the Sailfish a 42–41 lead. Embry-Riddle fought to pull ahead, but Darria Whitley's timely 3-pointer at 8:32 and Hadley's clutch free throws with just six seconds left ensured the quarter ended on level terms, setting up a dramatic finale.

The final quarter saw the 'Fish make a valiant last-minute push. Ellison nailed a 3-pointer with seven seconds on the clock, bringing the score to 73–71. Despite Ellison's heroics and Hadley's work at the free-throw line, PBA faced a tough sequence as Embry-Riddle held onto their slim lead. The Eagles knocked down their free throws late to seal the game. The tightly contested game concluded with the Sailfish falling just short, 73–71.

The Sailfish return to the court one final time during the regular season on Saturday afternoon when they head on the road to Tampa. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
