Baseball Drops Doubleheader in Melbourne

MELBOURNE, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team dropped both games of their doubleheader against Florida Tech on Saturday afternoon. The Sailfish gave up eight runs in both games while only scoring one and two in each game, respectively. Patrick Rakes had four hits over the two games, including a three-for-three performance in game two. The Sailfish have some time off before returning to the "Jake" on Mar. 6 for a four-game series with American International. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. on that Friday evening.  

Game One 

Nolan Larson set a solid tone on the mound for PBA, pitching 3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts, giving up just two hits and a walk. A.J. Prendergast took over in relief, encountering some hurdles as he allowed three earned runs over his 3 innings, including a home run, but also struck out four. Jamie McMahon followed, surrendering three earned runs on three hits and a walk in his inning of work, while recording one strikeout. In the final inning, Ethan Byrd allowed two earned runs on one hit and a hit batter, but managed three groundouts. 

Offensively, Trey Miranda stood out with a hit and a run scored, along with two assists on defense. Finley Holmes contributed a hit, an RBI and successfully swiped a base.  

Game Two 

Elijah Budiac started on the mound for PBA, pitching 4 2/3 innings and giving up seven hits and four runs, two of which were earned. He struck out three and walked two. Lucas Chantres struggled, managing just one out while allowing four earned runs on two hits and two walks. J. Murray delivered a steady relief effort, pitching two innings, surrendering only one hit, and striking out three. Chip Hoornstra wrapped things up with a hitless inning, striking out one, issuing one walk, and throwing one wild pitch. 

On the offensive side, Patrick Rakes led the charge with three hits and two RBIs. Trey Miranda made his presence felt with two hits and a run scored, boasting an OPS of 2.000. Carter Parent also contributed with two hits and a run, rounding out his day with an OPS of 1.333.
