DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team fell to the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Wednesday night by a score of 76-57, Embry-Riddle capitalized on a 44 points in the paint to maintain control throughout the game.
Anabel Ellison scored a season-high 24 points and recorded three steals, leading the Sailfish with her offensive performance.
Breeje Schuler posted eight points and contributed defensively with two blocks and two steals. Hadley KB secured six rebounds and tallied three steals, adding to the team's defensive efforts.
Blanche Toualeu added five points and provided two assists in her efficient play.
Anabel Ellison initiated the scoring for the Fish with a 3-pointer at 9:42, assisted by
Maddie Wallhoff, giving them an early lead. Despite turnovers, the Fish managed to narrow a mid-quarter deficit with fast-break points, including a 3-pointer by Wallhoff at 4:56 and a layup by Schuler at 4:24.
Anaya Smith connected on a 3-pointer at 1:01 to close in. However, Embry-Riddle capitalized on second-chance opportunities, ending the quarter with a 21–15 lead.
The Sailfish narrowed the deficit with Ellison's three-pointer at 8:41 and a layup with a subsequent free throw at 6:47.
Anaya Smith added a fast-break layup at 5:53 following Ellison's assist, bringing them within two points. Despite their efforts, the 'Fish trailed 38–29 at the end of the second quarter, as Embry-Riddle maintained a steady scoring pace.
In the third quarter, the Sailfish struggled to find offensive rhythm, scoring only eight points. Ellison initiated a brief momentum shift with a layup at 8:26, but turnovers and missed shots hampered their efforts. Wallhoff converted a 3-pointer at 6:13, offering a spark, yet Embry-Riddle answered with a series of baskets, maintaining control.
Natalie Allen added a late 3-pointer, but it was not enough to close the gap. The Fish ended the quarter trailing 60–37, with Embry-Riddle outscoring them 22–8.
The 'Fish initiated a comeback effort in the fourth quarter, narrowing the margin with a series of key plays. Toualeu contributed significantly with a fast-break layup at 9:32, followed by a successful free throw to cut the deficit. Ellison kept the momentum going by hitting a crucial 3-pointer at 5:48, and she continued to find success at the free-throw line, helping her team to outscore Embry-Riddle in the quarter.
Despite their efforts, the 'Fish were unable to fully close the gap, as Embry-Riddle maintained a steady pace. Palm Beach Atlantic concluded the quarter with a layup by Ellison in the final seconds, but the game ended in the Sailfish dropping a 76–57 decision.Â
