DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis team faced a tough match on Friday at the Crotty Tennis Complex, falling 6-1 at Embry-Riddle. PBA snagged a win in singles at the No. 6 spot and a doubles victory on court No. 3.
Embry-Riddle clinched the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Daniela Fernandez and Laura Cuesta Bret delivered a 6-1 victory over
Alina Hoermann and
Valeria Lopez at No. 1 doubles. Amelie Gindl and Charly Egger followed suit with a 7-5 win against
Virginia Borja and
Anarella Brito at No. 2 doubles. The 'Fish fought back with a win at No. 3 doubles, as
Elisa Buhagiar and
Mia Garber overcame Caroline DelSignore and Kaylee Kirivong, 6-3.
In singles action, Embry-Riddle extended their lead with Fernandez besting Garber 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. PBA earned a point when Brito secured a straight-set victory over Kirivong, 6-0, 7-5 at No. 6 singles. However, Embry-Riddle answered with a win at No. 2 singles, as Cuesta Bret defeated Borja, 6-3, 6-3.
Ashley Moinard added to Embry-Riddle's tally at No. 4 singles, beating Buhagiar 6-3, 6-3. Egger sealed the match for Embry-Riddle with a 7-4, 6-4 win over Lopez at No. 5 singles. The final singles match saw Gindl edge out Hoermann with a 7-5, 7-5 victory at No. 1 singles, wrapping up the day's play.
The Sailfish return to the courts next Saturday afternoon when they head to Saint Leo to take on the Lions.Â
