WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Coming off an emotional day on Saturday, the Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team (9-11, 5-7) took down Barry (5-13, 2-9) with a 62-51 victory, fueled by a stellar defensive effort that forced 25 turnovers and created 14 steals.
KB Hadley led the charge with 16 points and five steals, proving instrumental on both sides of the ball.
Anabel Ellison dropped a classic performance, with 13 points while racking up an incredible nine steals and nine assists.
Breeje Schuler knocked down three of four from downtown and pulled down nine boards.
The 'Fish set the pace early in the first quarter, as Schuler nailed a go-ahead three at 7:44, thanks to Ellison's assist. The defense was relentless, turning turnovers into points and closing the quarter with a commanding 16–6 lead over Barry.
Momentum stayed with the 'Fish as Schuler hit another big three-point shot at 8:32 in the second quarter, assisted by
Maddie Wallhoff, stretching the lead to 19–8. Ellison's thievery and playmaking kept the Sailfish surging forward, as
Darria Whitley drained a fast-break three at 2:06, pushing the score to 29–21. Despite Barry's efforts, PBA held a firm 31–23 lead at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Sailfish maintained their grip, with Whitley and Schuler each drilling threes to keep Barry at bay. Ellison's defensive hustle was crucial, disrupting Barry's offense time and again, and PBA entered the final quarter ahead 47-37.
The final quarter saw the Sailfish continue their balanced attack. Ellison's clutch three-pointer at 5:14 extended the lead to 52–44. Schuler's timely tip-in at 4:31, followed by
Anaya Smith's jumper at 3:35, kept the 'Fish comfortably ahead. Despite Barry's persistent attempts to rally, Ellison's iced the game with a couple of free throws at 0:41 and capped off a solid 62–51 win for Palm Beach Atlantic.
The Sailfish return to the court on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. when they head down I-95 to take on Palm Beach County rival, Lynn.
