WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer team kicked off their 2025 campaign with a thrilling home victory against the Tigers of West Alabama. A close-knit first half saw the Sailfish enter the half in a draw, 1-1. PBA worked diligently to net three goals and secure the 4-1 victory to spark their season.
PBA was quick to fire on the offensive side of the pitch, recording nine shots in the first half of play. It only took the 'Fish 16 minutes to net their first goal off the boot of
Rufus Roth. A foul from the Tigers sent
Livio von Holzen to take a corner kick, sending the ball to Roth who headed it for an early 1-0 lead. The Tigers looked to switch the tide and mustered their lone goal of the evening in the 31', sending both teams into the half tied 1-1.
At the start of the second half, both teams were evenly matched until a foul from the Tigers set PBA up for their second goal of the evening. In the 64
th minute, a free kick off the boot of
Marian Rutkowski cut across the box to
Juan Hermoso for a 2-1 advantage. In less than five minutes,
Fabio Reck sends a pass up field to
Veit Klement who splits through four defenders to net the Sailfish's third goal of the evening.
In the 72', PBA looked to work the ball up the pitch back on the offensive half of the field. After reaching the offensive half,
Marko Borovic sent the ball across the box to
Yassir Smlali who slid by the post to secure the 'Fish 4-1 victory over the Tigers.
The Sailfish will remain at the PBA Soccer/Lacrosse Field for a non-conference matchup against Tusculum on Saturday, September 6
th. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. (EST).
