WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer team closed out the week with another home match against Tusculum University. The Sailfish were tightly knit through the first half of play until a late goal gave them the 1-0 victory over the Pioneers.
In the first half of play, the Sailfish outshot the Pioneers four to two. Within the first minute of play,
Tin Vastic notched a shot on frame for PBA's first opportunity of the match. Within two minutes, PBA recorded their first corner kick but was unable to capitalize. A pair of fouls from the Pioneers led the 'Fish to two more corner kicks but were unable to record their first goal.
PBA spent the majority of the first half on the offensive side of the field, recording their second shot on frame from
Clement Scaccia. In the 31', Livio van Holzen took his chances and missed just high of the goal. A late shot from
Marko Borovic in the 44' sent PBA into the half in a draw, 0-0.
The Pioneers opened the second half aggressive on offense, seeing PBA goalie
Omar Einarsson record his first save in the 45'. In the 64
th minute, a foul from the Pioneers set
Marian Rutkowski up for the free kick. A pass across the box found the head of
Juan Hermoso to record his second goal of the season and elevate PBA 1-0.
Both teams continued to fight for offensive possession, seeing both sides notch seven shots apiece. In the final ten minutes of play, the Pioneers recorded four shots and worked tirelessly on the offensive third of the pitch. Strong defensive efforts from the Sailfish kept them at bay to secure the 1-0 victory.
The Sailfish will hit the road for a matchup against Wingate in Wingate, N.C. on Tuesday, September 16. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. (EST).
