Volleyball Drops Match Against NSU

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — Nova Southeastern University swept the Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team in straight sets, 25-19, 25-21, 25-22, on Saturday at Rubin Arena. Nova Southeastern's efficient attack, hitting .366, outpaced PBA, which managed a .181 hitting percentage.

Kelsey Rogers led the 'Fish with nine kills on 17 attempts, hitting at a .412 clip and contributing two blocks over three sets. Grace Reynolds facilitated the offense with 21 assists and added two kills, while also serving one ace. Lexi Berry made a strong impact with six kills, three service aces, and five digs. Rachel Smith hit .462, registering seven kills and one block, adding to the team's overall performance.

"Rachel and Kelsey were awesome tonight," PBA head coach Jeff Huebner said. "Unfortunately we just couldn't find our rhythm in serve, defense and blocking which have been very strong for us all year. We're going to get after the film and improve this week and can't wait to have the Fish Tank back in Rubin for Family Weekend!"

PBA was coming off a grueling five-set loss at No. 1 Lynn on Friday. The Sailfish began the first set with a quick strike as Reynolds scored the opening point with a kill, assisted by Brighten Sedmack. The team kept the score close early, with Rogers contributing multiple kills. Despite this effort, the Sharks gradually built momentum, extending their lead through consistent offensive plays and capitalizing on a few PBA errors. The 'Fish narrowed the gap mid-set, highlighted by a block from Sedmack and Rogers and a service ace from Reynolds. However, NSU maintained their advantage, closing out the set with a 25-19 win.

The Sailfish started the second set with momentum, taking a 3-1 lead following a string of attack errors by NSU and a kill by Rogers. The home team extended their advantage to 12-4 with critical contributions from Harper Stokes and Berry, who recorded back-to-back service aces. However, the Sharks responded with a strong offensive push, closing the gap to 15-15, powered by multiple kills from Caiden Largent. Despite the 'Fish's efforts to regain control with a kill from Nae Jordan, NSU maintained pressure and moved ahead 19-17. PBA continued to rally, highlighted by a kill from Sofia Augusto, but NSU closed the set on a strong note, eventually securing the set 25-21.

The Sailfish began the third set with Lexi Berry delivering an early kill, and followed it with a service ace, allowing the home team to level the score at 4-4. However, the Sharks responded with a series of points to reclaim the lead at 10-6.

PBA continued to battle, with Smith and Augusto contributing crucial kills to keep the team competitive. Despite their efforts, NSU's Olivia Aniol and Caiden Largent maintained pressure, extending their advantage. The 'Fish's late push, highlighted by contributions from Brighten Sedmack and Sydney Corbett, brought the score to 22-23, but NSU closed the set with a final push, winning 25-22.

The 'Fish hold a 10-3 overall record and are currently 0-2 in Sunshine State Conference play. The Sharks stand at 8-3 overall with a 1-1 record in the Sunshine State Conference.

PBA is back in action again on Friday against Tampa. The match against the Spartans takes place in Rubin Arena at 6 p.m.
