MIAMI SHORES, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw with the Barry Buccaneers in a midweek SSC match on Wednesday night. The Sailfish recorded 15 shots with 10 on goal, but were unable to get one past the goalkeeper and both squads held on to a clean sheet.
The first half began with the 'Fish initiating the attack as
Abigail Longstaff tested Barry University's goalkeeper, Marlen Hernandez, early in the half. Despite several attempts, including shots by
Meren Patton,
Faith Hardy, and
Anna Foreman, Hernandez and the Bucs remained unblemished, making multiple saves to keep the Sailfish off the board.
The 'Fish continued to push forward, earning numerous corner kicks which maintained pressure on Barry's defense.
Keira Dawley, in goal for PBA, contributed by saving a crucial shot from Melina Walle-Olsen, ensuring Barry also remained scoreless. The half concluded with the the Sailfish maintaining offensive pressure but the score remained knotted at nil-nil.
The second half opened with the 'Fish maintaining their offensive pressure. Patton led the effort with several attempts on goal, including a shot saved by Barry's Marlen Hernandez in the 72nd minute. Despite this, the 'Fish continued to press forward, recording multiple shots, though Hernandez managed to keep the net empty.
Barry countered with several corner kicks, attempting to break the deadlock. However, the 'Fish's defense held strong and managed to disrupt Barry's advances. The game concluded with a scoreless tie, as both teams remained locked at 0-0.
The Sailfish return to action at home on Saturday night when they take on the University of Tampa Spartans at 6 p.m. at the Rinker Athletic Campus.
