Sailfish Fall Short Against Knights, 2-1

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team dropped a tight match to the Middle Georgia State Knights despite pummeling the Knights with eight shots on goal in the 2nd half.

After a rainy senior day ceremony at midfield, the clouds parted, and the sun began to peak out just a bit for the beginning of the match between the 'Fish and the Knights. Less than 2 minutes later, senior Emily Rinaldi fired home a beautiful right-footed finish into the side netting for her first goal of her collegiate career after a nice pass from Meren Patton set up the midfielder perfectly.

The Sailfish controlled much of the possession and had a couple more chances in the first half with shots from Ariana Jones and Maddie Hulme that were both saved. Big saves were the theme of the night for the Knights keeper Hollie Keefe.

Into the 2nd half, Jones and Hulme each had chances early into the period but were answered by the keeper. 13 minutes into the second half, Safiya Dean equalized the match with assists from Fernanda Ramirez and Emily Graf. After the equalizer, the Sailfish had numerous chances to take the lead back but were met with a save each time from Keefe. The Sailfish put eight shots on goal in the half but were unable to find the back of the net. In the waning minutes of the match, Dean found the back of the net again to put the Knights ahead for the first time in the match.

PBA earned a corner kick in the final minute of the match and it found the head of captain Madison Kovar who steered it on net, but Keefe made one final save to secure the victory for the Knights.

The Sailfish return to action on Sunday when they head to USC Beaufort to take on the Sand Sharks at noon.
