WINTER PARK, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish baseball team split its final doubleheader of the season on the road against the Rollins Tars.
The Sailfish dropped game one after the Tars exploded for nine runs on thirteen hits. Despite the loss, Matthew Faranda hit a home run in the game that took him to 200 hits in his Sailfish career. PBA ended the season with a win in game three of the series with Nolan Smoot getting his first win of the year.
This doubleheader marks the end of the Sailfish season. PBA finishes the year with a record of 19-28 and a conference record of 11-19.
GAME ONE
The Sailfish only utilized two pitchers in the contest. Derek Langfelder got the start and got through 6.1 innings of work. He allowed ten hits and seven runs, only two of which are earned. He also had four strikeouts and gave up two walks on 115 pitches. Jimmie Buhl threw the final 1.2 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs on 36 pitches.
Fueled by a five spot in the third inning, Rollins put up all nine runs before the Sailfish finally cracked the scoreboard with a run in the top of the ninth. Matthew Faranda cracked a home run over the right center field fence. The hit put Faranda at 200 for his career with the Sailfish.
GAME TWO
Nick Feretic got the start for PBA in game two of the doubleheader. Feretic got through four innings of work while surrendering five hits and four earned runs. He gave up three walks on 56 pitches. Nolan Smoot, threw two full innings while only allowing one hit and no runs with one strikeout and one walk on 25 pitches. Isaac Beebe got his fifth save of the season while throwing 58 pitches in three innings. Beebe only allowed one earned run on two hits and three walks.
The Sailfish got out in front first in the top of the second with Chris Amparo scoring on a wild pitch and Aaron Vetter knocking in Finley Holmes on a RBI single. PBA added on a run with an Amparo RBI single in the top of the third. Rollins took the lead back in the bottom of the fifth. However, Vetter tripled to left field two score two runs in the top of the sixth. Aaron Izquierdo and Jake McNamara added two insurance runs the sixth and seventh, via reaching on an error and a sacrifice fly, respectively. Despite a solo home run for the Tars in the bottom of the eighth, the Sailfish held on for the win.
