Late Surge Lifts Tars over Sailfish

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team began its final series of the season against Rollins at home on Friday night.

The duo of Evoni Rodriguez and Lauren O'Brien led the Sailfish lineup with two hits each. PBA struck first in the game, but a three-run fifth inning by the Tars lifted Rollins over the Sailfish 4-1.

Olivia Zimmerman had a hot start in the circle. She set down the Tars easily in the first inning, striking out two. Rollins nearly broke through in the third. A two-out triple, a walk, and a stolen base put runners on second and third. A wild pitch got by the catcher, but a big bounce from the backstop fell into the lap of Larken Maseda, who tossed it to Zimmerman, who tagged out a Tar for the final out of the inning to keep the game scoreless.

The 'Fish got on the board in the bottom of the third. Kaitlyn Campbell led off the frame with a triple to left field just out of reach of a diving Rollins outfielder. O'Brien drove her in, smashing a single to right field to make it 1-0. Rodriguez followed with a blazing line drive to left. Chloe Nepveux reached on an infield single to load the bases, but PBA was limited to one run in the inning.

Rollins got one run back in the fourth. With two outs, a double, a passed ball and a single to center field tied the game at one. The game flipped in the fifth inning. Six hits in the inning led to three runs, allowing the Tars to take a 4-1 lead. The Sailfish went down quietly in the sixth and seventh for the Tars to hold on 4-1.

Zimmerman gave up four earned runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings with two strikeouts. Lauren Allen did not give up an earned run in 2.1 innings, giving up two hits and two walks.

The Sailfish finish the 2025 campaign on Saturday with a doubleheader. Game one is set for noon at Simpson Field.
