Softball Ends Season Against Rollins

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team concluded its season on Saturday with a doubleheader against Rollins.

The Sailfish looked to end the season on a high note by taking down the Tars on Senior Day. Seniors Evoni Rodriguez, Lacy Marty, Daylin Hejtmanek, Chloe Nepveux, and Karen Vasquez were honored before today's games.

The Tars had other plans, taking down PBA 10-2 in game one to clinch the series. Vasquez turned in a strong performance in her final start, but PBA fell 3-1 in game two.

Game One – RC: 10, PBA: 2

Rollins scored early and often in game one. The Tars scored four runs through the first two innings, taking advantage of two Sailfish errors to go with four hits. After Marty shut the Tars down in the third and fourth, Rollins sent a home run over the left field fence to take a 6-0 lead. The visitors added two more in the sixth on three hits and an error.

PBA got on the board in the sixth. Kaitlyn Campbell led off with a triple to right center field. An infield single and a stolen base by Hejtmanek put runners on second and third with no outs. Lauren O'Brien drove in Campbell with a single to right field. O'Brien got caught in a run-down trying to advance to second but stayed in it long enough to allow Hejtmanek to score to make it 8-2.

Rollins got both runs back in the seventh after two walks, a hit, and a sac fly. The Tars held on to win, 10-2.

Marty pitched 5.1 innings in her final game. Ashlyn Storms pitched 1.2 innings of relief.

Game Two – RC: 3, PBA: 1

The Tars scored first again in game two. The Tars scored two runs on a two-out single to left field to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning. After the early runs, Vasquez settled in and did not surrender another earned run for the rest of the game.

PBA cut into the deficit in the third. Anna Wetzsteon was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a groundout. After a flyout, Wetzsteon scored on a clutch single by Hejtmanek that made it a 2-1 game.

Rollins added an insurance run in the fifth. A fielding error allowed the leadoff batter to reach. A bunt single and a stolen base put runners on second and third. Vasquez forced a pair of popups, but a wild pitch allowed one Tar to score, increasing their lead to 3-1.

Rodriguez got on base in her final collegiate at-bat looking to start a rally in the seventh. Unfortunately for the Sailfish, a costly double play ended the rally. Rollins ended the inning to clinch the 3-1 win.

Vasquez pitched a complete game in the circle. She gave up two earned runs on eight hits with two strikeouts.
