Men's Lacrosse Battles Against #1 Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's lacrosse hit the road to face No. 1 Tampa in an SSC mid-week matchup. The Sailfish were first on the board, but were unable o hold their lead as they dropped the contest 21-7.

Curtis Goddard netted the first goal of the match off the assist from Patrick Law, giving PBA a strong lead early in the match. Tampa quickly responded with seven goals and held the Sailfish scoreless through the remainder of the first quarter. PBA was outshot 16-2 but saw goalie Brendan Pedisich with five saves.

Tampa continued their offensive fire in the beginning of the second quarter until Law netted PBA's second goal of the match, unassisted. Looking to cut at the deficit, Austin Airey netted his first goal of the match to make the score 9-3. The Spartans netted a pair of goals to close the first half of play, seeing PBA trail 11-3.

Within the first five minutes of the third quarter, Bryce Downs continued to chip at the deficit making the score 12-4. Both teams were even with eight shots, with the Spartans marking five on goal. Tampa netted four goals to elevate their lead to 16-4 headed into the final frame of play.

PBA was diligent in the fourth quarter, seeing Goddard with his second goal of the match off the assist from Law. Tyler Hopkins followed with his first goal of the match, cutting the Spartans lead to 16-6. Goddard assisted Law for the 'Fish seventh and final goal of the evening which was ultimately not enough as PBA dropped the contest, 21-7.

Palm Beach Atlantic will be back in action on Saturday, April 12 as they travel to Saint Leo, Fla. for another SSC contest against #10 Saint Leo. The match is set for 12:00 p.m. (EST).
