DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team finished its series against Embry-Riddle on Saturday in a doubleheader.
The Sailfish bounced back to even the series by taking game one 5-2, bolstered by a strong performance in the circle from
Karen Vasquez. The Sailfish took an early lead in game two, trying to steal the series, but the Eagles scored four unanswered runs to take the game, 4-3, and clinch the series.
PBA concludes the 2025 season next weekend when it hosts Rollins. Game one at Simpson Field is set for 6 p.m. on Friday.
Game One – PBA: 5, ERAU: 2
PBA evened the series in game one, taking down Embry-Riddle 5-2 behind a fast start at the plate and a complete-game effort from Vasquez.
The Sailfish offense came out swinging in game one, putting up three runs in the first inning. Campbell led off the game with an infield single and advanced to third after a groundout and a single from
Lauren O'Brien.
Evoni Rodriguez drove in the first run of the game with a single to left field. After Campbell's run made it 1-0,
Larken Maseda singled to the opposite field to make it 2-0. A fielder's choice later in the inning made it 3-0 after the first.
The Eagles answered in the bottom of the second, manufacturing a run with a leadoff single and stolen base followed by another RBI single. PBA answered in the third when
Marli Szierer smashed a double down the left-field line to drive in
Chloe Nepveux to make it 4-1.
Maseda added an insurance run in the fifth with a solo home run to left field. ERAU got one back in the sixth after a double and an RBI single, but the 'Fish defense stifled the Sailfish rally as
Daylin Hejtmanek threw out an Eagle attempting to go from first to third to end the sixth.
Vasquez was in command all afternoon. The righty tossed all seven innings without allowing a walk, scattering nine hits and striking out two while giving up two earned runs. Campbell led the Sailfish with three hits, one run, and a stolen base. Maseda went 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Game Two – ERAU: 4, PBA: 3
PBA put up a strong fight in Saturday's second game against Embry-Riddle, scoring three early runs before falling 4-3 in a tight battle.
The Sailfish jumped ahead in the second inning behind a string of big hits. Nepveux and Szierer ripped back-to-back doubles to drive in the first two runs, and
Bianca Green added an RBI single to cap a three-run frame.
ERAU got on the board in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs on two hits with one error. The Eagles tacked on two more runs in the third after a leadoff walk, stolen base, single, and wild pitch to take the 4-3 lead.
Olivia Zimmerman and
Lauren Allen combined in the circle to limit the Eagles after a tough start, with Allen tossing three scoreless innings out of the bullpen and striking out four.
