DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team battled throughout but came up empty in a 5-0 loss to Embry-Riddle on Friday night at Radiology Associates Field.
Despite the final score, the Sailfish (10-23, 4-21 SSC) showed flashes of resilience, particularly from senior
Chloe Nepveux, who recorded two of the team's three hits. Palm Beach Atlantic threatened late, placing runners at the corners in the seventh inning before Embry-Riddle closed the game with a shutout.
Starter
Lacy Marty (3-7) worked 4.2 innings and kept the game within reach through the early frames, allowing just two earned runs on six hits with one strikeout before giving way to
Karen Vasquez, who tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
The Sailfish had two defensive miscues that led to three unearned runs in the fifth inning, which put the game out of reach. Behind the plate, catcher
Larken Maseda cut down a runner at home to stifle another scoring chance in the sixth.
Embry-Riddle (28-17, 14-14 SSC) capitalized on a few key moments, scoring once in each of the first two innings and adding three runs in the fifth on three hits and two errors.
Palm Beach Atlantic looks to bounce back in Saturday's doubleheader. The first pitch in Daytona is set for 1 p.m.
