The Lions started the game with intensity and scored their first goal after less than a minute. In PBA's first attack, Hunter Levinson scored her first goal of the game when she bent her stick to the side and shot into the net. Saint Leo responded with two quick goals by winning the following draw controls. With 11:09 minutes left, Olivia Larges scored a low shot after receiving a pass from Rachel Delate behind the cage. PBA trailed behind 3-2 after the first four minutes. The Lions controlled the rest of the frame, winning both draw controls and successfully making their attempts. They won 9-for-4 of the draw controls in the quarter. The 'Fish were down 10-2 after the first 15 minutes.

PBA continued to lose the draw controls early in the second period, allowing Saint Leo to extend its lead to 13-2. Goalie Georgia Karns saved a couple of the Lions' shots, but the Sailfish struggled to get the ball past the Lions' midfield. With 5:02 minutes left, Taylor Fiorini scored PBA's only goal of the frame. The play before Fiorini was checked in her head and was given a free position attempt at the top of the crease. She was determined to score and shot a distinct shot in the low corner of the net. The Lions extended their lead, 14-3, right before the halftime break.

Arianna Tribble opened the scoring in the third quarter when she shot between the goalies' legs into the cage. The Lions responded with a 4-0 run in the middle of the period, scoring two of them from free position attempts. The 'Fish were down 18-4 before they closed the gap with 32 seconds left of the frame. Delate ran inside the crease and received a pass from Levinson behind the cage. Delate controlled the ball and quickly shot low into the net. PBA was down 18-5 with one quarter left.

The Sailfish let in another goal before scoring their first goal of the frame. With 12:13 minutes left, Delate ran behind the cage and got a shot off, leading to a rebound. Levinson picked up the ground ball and swung the ball into the cage. PBA trailed behind 19-6 but refused to give up in the game. The 'Fish were successful in their free position attempts in the game, making 100 percent of them. Taryn Thompson closed the gap to 19-7 when she scored on her free position attempt. The Lions netted another goal before Delate received a pass from Fiorini. With her back turned to the goal, Delate quickly turned around her defender and shot into the far corner of the cage.
