LAKELAND, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish dropped the first game of the three-game series to the Florida Southern Mocs on Friday night. The Sailfish carried a 5-1 run lead into the fifth inning but were unable to seal the deal and ended up falling by a score of 7-5.
Dane Hall got the start on the mound for the Sailfish. Coming off of a dominant complete game win last Friday night at Lynn, Hall got through 5.1 innings on 96 pitches. Hall gave up six runs, all earned, on six hits and two walks. Hall also had four strikeouts. Nick Feretic threw the remaining 2.2 innings in the game in 40 pitches. Ben Green added another run for the 'Fish with an RBI single in the fourth inning. The Mocs went on to score six unanswered runs powered by a four spot in the bottom of the fifth.
In the final chance for the Sailfish, Finley Holmes led things off with a leadoff double to bring the tying run to the plate. Giancarlo Chantres added a single to the shortstop with two outs representing the tying run. However, Trey Miranda grounded out to the second baseman to end the game.
The Sailfish return to action on Saturday afternoon for a doubleheader to complete the series with the Mocs at noon in Lakeland.
