Baseball Falls in Extras to Eckerd

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team (11-15, 4-9) lost to the Eckerd Tritons (8-22, 4-9) on Friday night in game one of the series in extra innings. In the low hit affair, the Tritons scored three runs on four hits which was just enough to edge out the Sailfish.

Dane Hall got the Friday night start for the first time this season for head coach Kent Bottenfield. Hall got through seven full innings and only allowed two earned runs on three hits and five walks. Hall had seven strikeouts on a season high of 115 pitches. Nick Feretic ended up with the loss after coming on in relief of Hall at the beginning of the eighth inning. Feretic had three strikeouts in 48 pitches and gave up one walk and one hit. The winning run was scored on Feretic but was unearned.

Jake McNamara got things started in the third inning when he scored on a wild pitch. Unfortunately, when attempting to make a play at the plate and tag McNamara, Dearl Edens, starting pitcher for the Tritons, fell to the ground with an injury and exited the game. However, Rocco Calise came in for the Tritons and held the Sailfish for the next 6.1 innings.

The Tritons scored the next two runs on RBI singles in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead. However, the Sailfish struck back in the fifth inning when Finley Holmes took advantage of another Triton wild pitch to scratch across the tying run. Despite multiple runners in scoring positions for both teams, the game remained tied until the Tritons took the final lead of the game on an RBI single in the top of the tenth inning at 3-2.

The Sailfish look to even up and take the series on Saturday with a doubleheader against the Tritons slated to begin at Noon at the J.M. 'Jake' Rubin Park.
