WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic University women's lacrosse team found themselves back int the win column after a dominating second half against the University of Montevallo. The Sailfish were seen outshooting the Falcons 18 to 12 in the second half to secure the 20-13 victory.
PBA wasted no time taking an early lead, seeing
Rachel Delate serve up
Olivia Larges for the first goal of the match. The Falcons retaliated with a pair of goals to steal the lead from the Sailfish, until a foul saw
Taryn Thompson net a free position goal and make the score 2-2. In a man-up situation,
Bella Marchiano swung the ball across the crease to Delate to elevate PBA to 3-2. The Falcons were relentlessly and netted a pair of goals before the end of the first quarter, seeing PBA trail 4-3.
Both teams were evenly matched to start the second quarter until Delate does what she does best and nets her second goal of the match. With the playing field even once again, the Falcons worked diligently to score during a man-down situation. Trailing by one, PBA looked to strike quick. The 'Fish sparked their offensive momentum with a goal from Larges from the top of the crease followed by a free position goal from Delate in a man-up situation. With a 7-5 lead,
Megan Jackson found Larges in a man-up situation to capitalize and grow the deficit. PBA closed out the first half with a goal from Marchiano and Levinson to enter the break with a 10-6 advantage.
A slow start to the third quarter came to a halt when
Annika Limpert passed across the crease to Marchiano for her second goal of the match. The Falcons were able to tack on a goal but Delate assisted Thompson before netting a goal of her own to elevate PBA to a 13-7 lead over the Falcons. In another man-up situation, Marchiano side-stepped her defenders and found Limpert to strike the back of the cage. The Falcons were able to muster a pair of goals, but Thompson brought the ball up field herself and scored to keep them at a distance entering the final quarter of play.
Leading the contest 15-9, the Sailfish continued to attack on offense seeing Delate with the goal in a man-down situation. Delate went on to help Larges with her fifth goal of the match and give PBA an eight-goal lead. The Falcons were able to muster up a few more goals, but not before Delate netted her seventh goal of the match for a total of 13 points, setting a new single game program record for total points in a single game. In the final minutes of play, the Falcons attempted to cut the deficit but still fell short and saw PBA victorious, 20-13.
Palm Beach Atlantic will be back in action on Wednesday, March 26 as they travel to Boca Raton, Fla. to open SSC play against Lynn. The match is set for 6:00 p.m. (EST).
