Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Contest at Lander

GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Palm Beach Atlantic Women's Lacrosse team concluded its weekend road trip with a match-up against Lander University. A late rally from the Bearcats saw them best the Sailfish, 14-4.

In the first quarter of play, the Sailfish worked relentlessly on offense and outshot the Bearcats six to three. A strong defensive unit from the Bearcats saw them record five saves and leaving the 'Fish to trail 3-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Both teams were aggressive on offense, seeing the Bearcats jump out in front 5-0. PBA looked to strike after a turnover from Lander saw Samantha Longwell with the groundball leading to the first Sailfish goal of the match from Rachel Delate. Lander quickly responded with a goal of its own, but a free position attempt set Delate up for her second goal of the match with two seconds remaining. PBA entered the half trailing, 6-2.

The Bearcats carried their momentum into the second half of play, outshooting the Sailfish nine to three in the third quarter. PBA goalkeeper Courtney Rausch picked up two saves during the quarter, but the 'Fish trailed 9-2 heading into the final quarter of play.

PBA worked diligently on defense, seeing Lander with a turnover and Olivia Larges with the groundball pickup. PBA moved quickly up field and saw Allie Truby with the third goal, assisted by Delate, to cut the deficit to 10-3. The Sailfish final goal of the match came from Annika Limpert, assisted by Delate, in the final five minutes of play. Even though PBA used strong defensive efforts to force Lander to 18 turnovers, it was ultimately not enough as the 'Fish fell short 14-4.

Palm Beach Atlantic will remain on the road for a match-up against Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. on Saturday, March 1 at 2:00 p.m. (EST).
