MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's tennis earned its first win of the season on the road against the St. Thomas Bobcats. The Sailfish got the win in a tight contest by a score of 5-2.
The Sailfish started off the doubles session on the right foot. Behind the efforts of Alina Hoermann and Valeria Lopez, the Sailfish kicked off the doubles action with a 6-3 win in the first match to finish of the session. Following the first match, Simona Karlsson Hantzis and Cecilia Peroni dispatched their opponent by a score of 6-4 to clinch the doubles point for the Sailfish. Frida Alsterhem and Virginia Borja fell in the third doubles match by a score of 6-4 but the Sailfish had already clinched the first point of the morning.
Alina Hoermann continued her hot start in doubles by disposing of her opponent with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout in the first position of the singles session. In the next match, Virginia Borja fell to her opponent in the second position by a score of 3-6, 2-6. Playing in the third position, Simona Karlsson Hantzis won her match 6-4, 6-2.
Cecilia Peroni dominated her match, taking it 6-1, 6-0. Valeria Lopez clinched the match for the sailfish in the fifth match, which was the last match to finish, by a score of 6-4, 7-5. Frida Alsterhem competed in the sixth position; however, she retired due to injury down 3-0 in the first set.
The Sailfish return to the court on Saturday, March 1st at 1:00 p.m. when they head to Daytona to take on Embry-Riddle.
