Women's Lacrosse Opens Season With Win Over Belmont Abbey

BELMONT, N.C. - The Palm Beach Atlantic Women's Lacrosse team opened the 2025 season on the road in a match-up against Belmont Abbey College. This was just the second match-up in program history and the first time the Sailfish were victorious, 10-8. PBA now holds a 1-0 record to start the season.

PBA wasted no time and jumped ahead early with a goal in the first two minutes of play. Annika Limpert scored the 'Fish's first goal of the season and the game off the assist from Rachel Delate. The Crusaders evened the playing field quickly and moved in front of PBA off a free-position shot. Trailing by one goal, the Sailfish saw Delate with her first goal of the season and evening the playing field once again, 2-2. Within a minute, Olivia Larges gave PBA the 3-2 advantage off the assist from Delate. The Sailfish went on a scoring spree, seeing Limpert and Delate notch their second goal of the afternoon followed by Bella Marchiano scoring a man-up free position attempt. PBA ended the first quarter with a 6-3 lead over BAC.

The Sailfish did not cease their scoring, seeing Megan Jackson open the second quarter with a goal in the third minute. A quiet second quarter saw PBA record just one lone goal to hold a 7-3 lead entering the half. The Sailfish outshot the Crusaders five to three, while the Crusaders recorded four saves and PBA marked three in the period.

At the start of the third quarter, the 'Fish scored a pair of goals within the first minute and a half. Taryn Thompson scored on a man-up situation followed by Arianna Tribble to give PBA a 9-3 lead early in the third quarter. BAC was able to net a goal of its own, but the Sailfish goalkeeper Georgia Karns recorded five saves to hold the Crusaders at bay.

In the final quarter, PBA took to the scoreboard once again with another goal from Delate on a man-up situation to elevate the 'Fish to a 10-4 lead. A relentlessly offensive strike from the Crusaders saw them netting four goals to cut the deficit to two. Another three saves added to Karns tally and helped hold BAC to eight goals and clinch the 10-8 victory.

Palm Beach Atlantic will remain on the road for a match-up against Lander University in Greenwood, S.C. on Sunday, February 23 at 11:00 a.m. (EST).
