Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 23 Sharks

FT. Lauderdale, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team traveled down to Ft. Lauderdale on Wednesday evening looking to bounce back after their most recent loss to Florida Tech on Saturday night.

The Sailfish, tasked with taking on a top-25 Sharks team, wanted to prove they could hang with the Sharks once again after dropping the first matchup in a tightly contested 74-66 loss at home the month prior. PBA, able to keep the turnovers down and the rebound margin close, could not get enough shots to fall and ultimately fell to Nova by a score of 71-56.

Kash Ayuso led the way for the 'Fish, recording a double-double with 23 points and ten rebounds. Anabel Ellison, who had uncharacteristic performance only shooting 2-11 from the field and 3-7 from the charity stripe, followed behind with eight points of her own. Zoe Wortinger also contributed eight points going 3-7 from the field, 1-1 beyond the arc, and 1-1 from the free-throw line. Karyzma Pierre and Carleigh Andrews followed right behind them with seven and six points, respectively.

The Sailfish fell behind early in the game going down six in the first quarter. Nova shooting 7-15 (46.7%) from the field were able to give themselves some breathing room over the 'Fish who only mustered up 4-14 (28.6) in the first frame. The Sailfish cut the Shark lead down to two and one at two different points in the second quarter but could not quite get over the hump to take the lead.

Coming out of halftime, the Sharks extended their lead all the way out to ten points thanks to two separate runs of five and four points respectively in the first three and a half minutes of the third period. The Sailfish, unable to claw back into the game, fell down by 17 late in the fourth before ultimately losing 71-56
