LAKELAND, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team Palm Beach Atlantic University fell to Florida Southern College, 67-52, on the road, despite forcing 21 turnovers. Florida Southern capitalized on a 51-30 rebounding advantage to secure the win.
Darria Whitley scored 14 points, converting 4 of 7 attempts from beyond the arc.
Maren McCallister contributed a season-high 12 points and blocked two shots.
Breeje Schuler collected six rebounds and added two steals.
The Sailfish opened the game by securing a lead with a 3-pointer from Whitley at 7:31, assisted by Ellison. PBA maintained momentum despite a few turnovers, tying the game at 11 with a layup from
Blanche Toualeu at 1:40. In the closing seconds, Schuler hit a big three-shot with 19 seconds remaining, giving the 'Fish a 14-11 advantage over Florida Southern at the end of the first quarter.
The Sailfish capitalized on key defensive plays to maintain pressure in the second quarter. McCallister's 3-pointer at 9:34 gave the Sailfish an early advantage, while Whitley added a fast-break 3-pointer of her own at 5:48 to extend their margin. Despite facing turnovers, the Sailfish held a slim lead thanks to
Anaya Smith's crucial steal and assist sequence that led to
KB Hadley's fast-break layup with 1:03 remaining. The Sailfish headed into the halftime break narrowly leading 29–28.
The 'Fish started the third quarter strong with Smith scoring a jumper in the paint at 9:21, giving them an early three-point lead. Whitley followed with a crucial 3-pointer at 8:12, assisted by Ellison, to maintain momentum. However, Florida Southern responded with a series of 3-pointers, including a shot by Sydney Gomes at 3:29, to take the lead.
Palm Beach Atlantic began the fourth quarter with a three-point shot by Smith at 8:10, assisted by Hadley, narrowing the gap to seven points. Despite this effort, the Sailfish struggled to maintain momentum as they converted only one of ten field goal attempts during the quarter. The game concluded with the Sailfish falling short, finishing the quarter 10–17, and the final score was 67–52 in favor of Florida Southern.
