LAKELAND, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Florida Southern on Saturday night.
The 1st half started like most games have this year for the 'Fish with both sides slowly feeling each other out and both teams trading possession without much offensive pressure. The Sailfish created some shots in the first half but were either off target or blocked by the Mocs' backline. Florida Southern broke the ice in the 38th minute of play with a goal from Ava Hackworth that squeaked through Brooke Delzatto into the net.
The same problem plagued the Sailfish in the second half. The offense struggled to get shots through the FSC defense. Faith Hardy created a scoring chance with about 10 minutes left in the matchup when Faith Hardy put a shot on goal that was saved by the Mocs' keeper. Ariana Jones put a shot on goal with a little over 1 minute to play in the match but once again the keeper was up to the task. In the waning moments of the match, Jones put a long throw into the box but the ball was cleared, and the Sailfish dropped their first SSC matchup of the season.
The Sailfish return to the pitch on Wednesday at 7 p.m. with a chance to bounce back against SSC opponent Florida Tech in Melbourne. In a non-conference matchup with the Panthers on September 17th in West Palm Beach, the Sailfish fell by a score of 2-0.
