Miami Shores, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball team won their third consecutive game on Wednesday evening by defeating the Barry Buccaneers by a score of 67-58. Anabel Ellison and Karyzma Pierre were the bus drivers for the Sailfish once again with 21 and 17 points respectively.
The Sailfish found themselves down six early after two straight threes from the Buccaneers but crawled back into the game over the duration of the first quarter. A seven point run from the Sailfish over just 38 seconds in the middle of the quarter gave PBA their first lead of the game at 9-8 with 5:07 left in the quarter. After both teams traded blows, a layup from Pierre gave the Sailfish a two-point lead after the first ten minutes.
The second quarter was tightly contested just like much of this game was. The largest lead of the quarter was owned by Barry after a layup from Audre Jennings put the Buccaneers up 5 with under twenty seconds remaining. However, a big three point shot from Katelynn Hagy at the buzzer drew PBA back within two points at the halftime break.
Coming out of the intermission, it was back and forth early between the two teams. Once again, Barry grew a two-possession lead and got back out in front by six. However, an 8-0 run over the final 1:31 of the third quarter gave PBA a two-point lead heading into the final frame.
After both teams traded buckets in the first minute of the fourth quarter, PBA produced another 8-0 run to stretch the lead out to the largest of the night at 10 points. Barry clawed their way back to a five-point deficit but that would be the closest they would get as Ayuso, Ellison, and Pierre would ice the game with multiple successful trips to the free-throw line.
The Sailfish look to continue their winning streak when they return home on Saturday afternoon to take on Rollins at 2 p.m. inside the Rubin Arena. In the lone matchup earlier this season at Rollins, the Tars took a 75-48 win in the third game of the season for PBA.
