TAMPA, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish fell to the UTampa Spartans on Saturday afternoon by a score of 76-51. A big second quarter from the Spartans was the difference and the Sailfish could not recover.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair and back to back buckets from Anabel Ellison and Katelynn Hagy gave the Sailfish their first lead of the game with 2:51 left in the frame at 12-10.
Tampa began to pull away in the second quarter. Fueled by 14 points from Kath Van Bennekom, the Spartans outscored PBA 23-8 in the period. The Sailfish unfortunately went cold from the field only shooting 28.6 from the field on 4-14 shooting.
The third and fourth quarters were tight, but PBA was unable to climb out of the hole dug in the 2nd quarter and ultimately fell victim to the Spartans 76-51.
Karyzma Pierre and Katelynn Hagy led the way for PBA with 10 points each. Kash Ayuso and Darria Whitley were right behind them with nine and eight points respectively.
The Sailfish return to the floor next Wednesday when they return home to the friendly confines of the Rubin Arena to take on Florida Tech. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
