WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team played its home opener on Saturday against Mississippi College.
PBA hoped to continue its momentum after a thrilling season-opening win over Saint Leo on Thursday night. PBA faced a deficit early, but a Sailfish goal at the 60-minute mark brought the 'Fish back to life. PBA had a clean strike at the goal with seven minutes left to play, but it missed high. MC held on to win, 2-1.
The Sailfish totaled six shots in the match, highlighted by a goal from
Marina Leal. The 'Fish put four shots on target, while Mississippi College finished with six shots on goal.
Taylor Jackson played all 90 minutes for the Sailfish in goal, finishing with five saves.
An own goal by the Sailfish got Mississippi College on the board 25 minutes into the game. The Sailfish conceded a second goal 10 minutes into the second half after a tough bounce got past Jackson.

Maddy Nelson executed on a through ball, setting up
Marina Leal with a clean look at goal. Leal found the back of the net to cut the deficit in half with nearly 30 minutes left to play.
Isabella Reinhardt took a strike at the 73-minute mark. She nearly found the bottom-left corner, but it was saved. Aiden McCausland had another chance to equalize, but her shot sailed above the goal. The Choctaws ran out the clock to hold on to win, 2-1.
PBA hits the road to face Webber International on Tuesday. The match in Babson Park, Fla. takes place at 3:30 p.m.
