WEST PALM BEACH, Fla- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 loss to the Saint Leo Lions in their first SSC action of the season.
The Sailfish, able to get a few chances in the first half from Brogan MacIsaac and Emma Canty, had a tough time controlling the ball due to the Lion's defensive pressure. The Lions controlled much of the possession in the first half but thanks to four saves from Sammy Peebles, the game would remain tied going into the halftime break.
The Sailfish changed the narrative coming out of the break. PBA found their game. The Sailfish controlled much of the possession for the first twenty minutes. Marina Leal broke free with the ball on the left side with the best chance of the game for the Sailfish but was stopped by Hanna Goetzer.
After taking a free kick, the ball popped back out to Lea Loubier who put a long shot on net. The surprising shot barely caught the bar and bounced out for a goal kick.
After controlling much of the possession in the first half, the Lions won a corner kick in the 72nd minute of the match. Rhyanne Pascoe played a ball toward the near post and it ended up in the back of the net. After a scramble in front of the net, Julia Gonsman ended up with the goal.
The Sailfish continued to press for an equalizer over the last 25 minutes but were unable to convert.
PBA returns to action next Saturday night when they head to Tampa to take on the Spartans.
