MIAMI GARDENS, Fla- The PBA women's soccer team lost by a score of 2-0 on Wednesday night on the road against SSC opponent Barry University.
The Sailfish dominated the Buccaneers in the shot category the entire game. The Sailfish peppered Fernanda Mayrink with ten shots on goal but she was up to the task with a ten save performance.
Brogan MacIsaac placed a powerful strike towards the bottom left corner in the first ten minutes of the match. However, Mayrink made an excellent save to keep it 0-0 early. Kendall Popp pounced on a Barry miscue late in the first half, but the ball wandered just off target off her left foot.
A high, lofting strike from Alexa-Renae Garcia from just inside the Buccaneers attacking half would find its way over the outstretched hands of Sammy Peebles for first goal of the game. With twenty minutes left, Barry doubled their lead after a free kick from Alia Jaidi took a deflection out front and squeezed past Peebles. Peebles made three saves on five shots in the game.
It was more of the same story in the second half for the Sailfish. Dominating the shots but able to find a finishing strike. Early in the second half, Aidan McCausland put an excellent strike on frame from distance but was pushed aside by the Buccaneers keeper.
This marks the sixth game in a row that PBA has limited their opponents to single-digit shots on goal, only allowing the Buccaneers five shots on goal tonight.
PBA falls to 3-3-1 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. The Sailfish return to action on Saturday evening when they take on Florida Tech at 6 p.m. at the Rinker Athletic Campus.
