LAKELAND, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team kicked off its series against Florida Southern on Friday night.
Karen Vasquez carried the Sailfish with a spectacular performance in the circle. She tossed a complete-game shutout against the Mocs. She held the hosts to five hits as PBA won 1-0.
The Sailfish totaled four hits in the game, but
Elisa Grande had the biggest one of the night.
Rhiannon Sibbett was hit by a pitch and stole second base to give the 'Fish a runner in scoring position. Grande delivered with a two-out RBI single up the middle to give PBA a 1-0 lead.
Isabella Hernandez led the Sailfish with two hits, including a leadoff double in the fourth inning.
Vasquez finished the game without allowing a walk and striking out two batters. Tonight's game was the second complete-game shutout of her PBA career.
The Sailfish look to clinch the series on Saturday. The first pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m.
