Softball Falls to Tars

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team began its final series of 2024, facing off against No. 20-ranked Rollins.

The Sailfish were looking for their first win over Rollins since 2022. Karen Vasquez only allowed one earned run in the circle, but PBA failed to muster enough run support. Rollins took the lead in the third inning and held on to win 3-0.

Vasquez pitched all six innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on seven hits with no walks and three strikeouts. The Sailfish produced two hits in the game, coming from Evoni Rodriguez and Larken Maseda.

The 'Fish had a runner in scoring position in the top of the first after a Rollins error and a stolen base by Rodriguez, but a groundout stranded the runner. Vasquez did not allow a runner until the third inning. A bunt single and a groundout put a runner on second. A passed ball and a PBA error allowed one runner to score to make it a 1-0 lead for the Tars.

Rodriguez led off the fourth inning for PBA with an infield single and maneuvered to third base after a pair of groundouts, but she was stranded to end the inning. PBA had another chance to even the score in the top of the sixth. An error allowed Gracie Mullett to reach base. She moved to second after a single from Maseda, but a strikeout ended the inning.

Rollins added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth. Two singles and an error set up a two-RBI double to make it 3-0. Vasquez limited the damage, escaping the innings with a runner in scoring position. The Sailfish went down quietly in the seventh as the Tars won, 3-0.

PBA finishes its season on Saturday after a doubleheader with the Tars.
