WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Palm Beach Atlantic women's lacrosse team faced another ranked opponent in Sunshine State Conference play as they hosted Lynn today. The Sailfish fell behind early to the No. 10 ranked Fighting Knights before ending in a 22-10 defeat. PBA's record falls to 3-8 overall and 0-4 in conference play on the season.
The Sailfish were able to hang with the Fighting Knights for half of the opening quarter as
Addyson Johnson was carrying the PBA offense early. She scored a hat trick in just four minutes of play as the 'Fish jumped out to a 3-2 lead.
Ella Howlin found the back of the net to tie the game 4-4 before Lynn went on a run that would decide the game. The visitors would score the next nine goals, leading 10-4 after the first quarter and scoring the opening three goals of the second. The scoring run was ended by Johnson's fourth goal for PBA. PBA was outshot 26-13 in the opening half that saw
Taryn Thompson score in the second quarter but the Sailfish trailed 18-6 at half.Â
The second half cruised by as scoring slowed and Lynn met the ten-goal scoring margin. PBA scored three straight goals in the third to cut the deficit to 19-9 but Lynn answered with the next three late in the fourth. The two sides were nearly identical in shots in the second half, while PBA was able to win 16-of-34 draw controls on the night.
PBA continued to use both goalies as
Georgia Karns replaced starter,
Courtney Rausch, after the opening quarter. Rausch made two saves while allowing ten goals while Karns made six saves while allowing 12. Johnson finished with a team-high four goals for the Sailfish while Howlin was PBA's second player with double-digit goals.
Sara Metheny once again led the 'Fish in ground balls with three while also winning six draw controls.Â
The Sailfish remain at home for their next game, as they host Embry-Riddle in another SSC battle. The Eagles are 11-2 on the season, coming off a one-goal defeat to Lynn, and ranked No. 11 in the country.
