Softball Drops Series to Nova Southeastern

DAVIE, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team concluded its series against Nova Southeastern on Sunday.

Sunday's game served as the deciding game for the series. PBA evened the series by winning the second game of Saturday's doubleheader 4-3. The Sailfish hung with the Sharks for four innings, but a three-run fifth inning from NSU put the game out of hand. The Sharks clinched the series by taking the final game, 6-1.

The Sharks took an early lead, scoring two runs on two singles and a double in the first inning. PBA answered in the top of the second. Isabella Hernandez and Alexia Martinez singled to start the inning. A sac bunt moved them both into scoring position. Gracie Mullet singled through the left side to score Hernandez and make it a 2-1 game.

NSU added another run in the fourth inning. A hit by pitch and a pair of singles gave the Sharks a 4-1 lead. Mullett and Larken Maseda earned base knocks for the 'Fish in the fifth inning, but PBA could not bring them around to score.

The Sharks put the game out of reach in the bottom of the fifth. NSU started a two-out rally with a walk, followed by a triple, another walk, a stolen base, and a single added three more runs for the Sharks. PBA was unable to recover, losing 6-1.

Gracie Mullett led the PBA offense, going 3-for-3 with an RBI. Maseda and Hernandez tallied two hits each. Lacy Marty started the game for PBA. She pitched three innings, giving up two runs on four hits and two walks. Lauren Allen was the first pitcher out of the bullpen. She tossed 1.2 innings, surrendering four earned runs on four hits and two walks. Ashlyn Storms finished the game in the circle for the Sailfish. In 1.1 innings pitched, she did not allow an earned run, giving up one hit and two walks.

PBA returns to Simpson Field next weekend against Eckerd. The series begins on Friday at 6 p.m.
