Softball Earns a Split Against Eckerd; Friday's Gametime Moved to Noon

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team hosted Eckerd in an SSC matchup on Thursday.

The matchup was moved to Thursday to try to avoid inclement weather. The Sailfish hit the ball well in the first game but couldn't find a gap. PBA stranded 10 baserunners and were shut out by the Tritons, 4-0. The 'Fish found some holes in game two. PBA scored five runs in the first two innings. The five-run lead was enough run support for Cambria Arturo to get the win, coming out on top 5-1.

The final game of the series has been moved to noon on Friday at Simpson Field after being originally scheduled for 2 p.m.

Game One – EC: 4, PBA: 0

Eckerd took a 1-0 lead in the third inning of game one. A pair of singles put runners on first and third. The runner on first took off for second. PBA threw down to bait the runner at third to go home. The runner advanced on a late throwback to home to give the Tritons a 1-0 game.

Madison Schlichte and Toree Hoobler started the bottom of the third with a pair of singles, but a double play killed the PBA rally. The Sailfish put two more runners on in the fourth, but they were also stranded. Eckerd made it a 3-0 game on an RBI double and a Sailfish error. Schlichte and Hoobler started the fifth with two more singles, but the 'Fish came up empty.

PBA put two runners on base in each of the sixth and seventh innings but lacked timely hitting. EC scored one more run on a pair of Sailfish errors to make it a 4-0 victory.

Karen Vasquez pitched a complete game in the circle. She surrendered four runs (two unearned) on eight hits with a walk and a strikeout. PBA totaled seven hits in the game, including two hits each from Gracie Mullett, Hoobler, and Schlichte.

Game Two – PBA: 5, EC: 1

The Sailfish got on the board early in game two. Evoni Rodriguez started a rally with an infield single and a stolen base. Larken Maseda stayed inside and inside pitch to single up the middle to drive in Rodriguez. An Eckerd error on a first and third play made it 2-0. Schlichte stayed hot, sending an RBI double to right-centerfield to score Isabella Hernandez.

The 'Fish tacked on two more runs in the second. Elisa Grande led off with a double. Gracie Mullett singled to advance Grande to third. A wild pitch allowed Grande to score and advanced Mullett. Mullett moved to third after a deep flyball setting up another single up the middle from Maseda to make it 5-0.

Arturo did not allow a hit until the fourth inning. The Tritons got one run back after a double and a single, making it a 5-1 game. She held the Eckerd lineup at bay for the rest of the evening. She gave up five hits and one walk in seven innings pitched with four strikeouts.

Schlichte led PBA with two doubles. Maseda finished with two hits, two RBIs, and a run scored.
