Men's Basketball Drops Home Finale to Embry-Riddle

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team hosted Embry-Riddle on Saturday in front of a packed Rubin Arena.

The Sailfish honored seniors Ryan Claflin, Bryce Laskey, Grant Ledford, and Marcus Montalvo before tipoff. Unfortunately for the 'Fish, PBA faced a hot ERAU team that entered the game having won six of its last seven games. The Sailfish came out flat in today's game, falling behind by double digits in the first half. The squad never recovered, falling to the Eagles 87-71.

Ledford led the Sailfish with 16 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Micah Jones came off the bench for 14 points. Jamaal Walker and Montalvo tallied 12 points each. Walker snagged five rebounds, while Montalvo added five steals and four assists. Trent McNair snagged a team-high five rebounds. Claflin added seven boards of his own.

PBA's offense got off to a slow start, not finding its first points of the night until the 14-minute mark in the first half. The Sailfish couldn't get their shot to fall in the first half, going 0-for-7 from three and shooting 29 percent in the first period. Meanwhile, the Eagles shot over 50 percent in the half, helping the visitors take a 40-25 lead into halftime.

The Sailfish fought back for 46 points in the second half. PBA converted on four 3-pointers in the half and did not commit a turnover in the period. However, PBA failed to slow down the Eagles' offense. ERAU shot 57 percent in the second half, including 9-for-11 from 3-point range. The Eagles kept the Sailfish at arm's length, winning 87-71.

ERAU outshot the 'Fish 55 percent to 34 percent in the game. PBA's defense forced ERAU into 16 turnovers, leading to 18 points. The Sailfish took care of the ball, finishing the game with seven turnovers. The Eagles won the rebounding battle 44-39.

PBA concludes its regular season on Wednesday, traveling to face Eckerd next Saturday. The game in Saint Petersburg, Fla. is set for 7:00 p.m.
