FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.- Kash Ayuso took over as the all-time leading scorer for the Palm Beach Atlantic women's basketball program and led the Sailfish to a 63-56 win over the Shaw Bears.
With the 28-point performance for Ayuso, she took over first place from Hannah Grim who had a total of 1,219 career points.
Behind eight points from Keibra Hopkins, the Bears came out hot in the first quarter and led the Sailfish 17-10 at the end of the first quarter.
PBA clawed back into the game in the second quarter with Gabrielle Wener and Kash Ayuso combing for 14 points. With those two getting hot and the Sailfish holding Shaw to only ten points on 33.3 percent shooting, PBA took a two-point lead into the halftime break.
PBA extended their lead in the third quarter with Anabel Ellison firing off 12 points in the period. With the hot hand, 9 of the 12 points came from beyond the arc in the quarter. Ellison finished the game with 15 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
The Sailfish were able to stave off a Shaw push in the fourth quarter and hold on for the win.
PBA returns to the floor on Wednesday evening for their first home conference game of the season when Barry makes their way into the Rubin Arena for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
